A History of Father’s Day Gifts

Father’s day is coming up, and looking at my track record, I could use some help:

  • Ties. Always a good choice for my dad when he worked in the corporate world. My sister and I never had a say in this gift.
  • Chocolate ties. Then, one year, my mom asked us what kind of tie to get my dad, and we answered, “Chocolate!” Brilliant.
  • Socks and sweater vests. No comment.
  • Homemade coupons. This happened on multiple occasions, usually when we had forgotten about Father’s day and needed a back up plan. So there were coupons for “one free dishwashing with no complaints,” a “free carwash and car wax”, and of course the “TV monopoly: 2 hours of remote control power.”
  • Cargo Shorts and Flip Flops. When my sister and I entered our teens, we were embarrassed even at the mention of our parents, let alone how they dressed. So each year, we would buy my dad a “hip” clothing option, and in a couple years, we had him dressing like a high schooler.

I’m determined to make this year amazing. I’m thinking something with Settlers of Catan (my dad’s favorite game) and Postagrams. Maybe spice up the game a little bit. I will for sure send him one of the punny Sincerely Ink Father’s Day cards!

What’s the best or worst Father’s day present you’ve given or received?

Memorial Day Weekend Packing List

Whether you’re getting out of town of staying close to home, Sincerely has created a mobile app “packing list” to make this Memorial Day extra memorable.

AutoStitch

AutoStitch

AutoStitch, by Cloudburst Research, allows you to create seamless panoramas from your iPhone.  If you find yourself on a hike with a breathtaking views, or at a BBQ with the entire family, and just can’t seem to capture the whole scene with one photo, you can take multiple photos and the app will stitch them together for you to create a beautiful panorama.  I also love using this app when there are two of us on a trip and no third person to take photos.  You can take a photo of your travel buddy, switch places and have them take a photo of you, and then stitch them together to create the illusion of a photo taken of the two of you.

Sincerely Ink Memorial Day Cards

Sincerely Ink Memorial Day Cards

Spending the weekend camping in the middle of nowhere but want to show friends and family what a great time you’re having?  Sincerely Ink has a collection of gorgeous star spangled cards to commemorate Memorial Day Weekend, and allows you to send a card from the comfort of your sleeping bag.

If you’re looking to BBQ this weekend but need a little Grill-spiration, check out Webber’s On the Grill BBQ App.  They have a whopping 280 recipes and will even create the shopping list for you.

Want to reconnect with the great outdoors?  Trailhead by the North Face will find trails, hikes, bike routes, and more based on your location!

Whatever you plans are, we wish you a happy, adventurous and safe Memorial Day weekend!
